Dana Codorean-Berciu and Mukka

Performing Israeli songs, Horas and Doinas

The ‘doina’ is a poetic and often melancholic melody of Romanian shepherds, improvised and ornamented by the performer. It occupies a similar place to that of the USA blues. The lyrics are about love and loss, nature, the seasons, faith and rebellious heroic figures.
Dana Berciu (voice), Frank Biddulph (violin), Oliver Baldwin (double bass), Koby Israelite (accordion). Dana Berciu was born in Transylvania, Romania. DanaDana is a singer and a visual artist based in London. She sings with an ensemble which includes a virtuoso Israeli accordion musician and a virtuoso violinist and double bass player both specialising in Klezmer music.
