mis_leading Bucharest

Bucharest can be a misleading city: "petit Paris", communist wasteland, development testbed and more. Today it is a city in search of a vision for development. Overwhelmed by the fast and hectic growth, which exerts a hefty pressure on its urban fabric, it has to put up with structural disfunctions inherited from a sore past.

14 architecture studios in Bucharest have proposed a solution: the TUB project (Transcentral Urban Bucharest), an alternative aiming to implement urban revitalisation mechanisms that will allow a healthy relationship between the city and its inhabitants.

Five architects come to London to present the project: Dorin Stefan, Teodor Frolu, Augustin Ioan, Bruno Andresoiu and Mario Kuibus. Mihai Pop, the commissioner of the Romanian Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale, will join them to speak about arts links with urban design projects.

With support from the Romanian Cultural Institute, TUB will be part of the international programme at the London Architecture Festival in 2008.
