The Amsterdams in London

       

The Amsterdams hit the Dublin Castle, the venue for young aspiring indie bands in Camden Town.

The indie rock trend and the new-wave revival passed through Romania quicker than an early winter flu epidemic. The good news is that some caught the bug and the symptoms made them tear into their guitars in a way that would make any band proud. Chief among these outfits is The Amsterdams, a five piece that has been playing for a couple of years now.

The Amsterdams do a little of everything - from Interpol-like lazy melodies (Where to go) to indie pop (Fireworks) to sounding like your favourite British rockers (be they 'The Editors' or 'Arctic Monkeys'). The band's lyrics cover the whole range from disaster to nostalgia. Taking care of Anna is a story-in-a-song about the bombing of a café; something you would never guess from its bouncy riffs.

If indie rock ever makes it in Romania, it will be because of The Amsterdams and their relentless pursuit. Andrei Hategan (vocals & keys), Andrei Ungureanu (guitar), Ovidiu Bejan (guitar & vocals) and Augustin Nicolae (bass) are now working at their first album which will be released in the summer.
