Speaking of loveMonday 14 February 2011, 7pm;
On Valentine's night, three of the most distinguished fellows of the Royal Society of Literature read and reflect upon their favourite poetry about love, both from their own work and the work of other poets. The prominent British poets, Wendy Cope, Jackie Kay and Hugo Williams, will also participate in a talk chaired by Paula Johnson and will passionately discuss love and poetry. Wendy Cope's collections include Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis, Serious Concerns and If I Don't Know, and in 1988 she was the listener's choice in a BBC poll to succeed Ted Hughes as Poet Laureate. Jackie Kay, whose collections include The Adoption Papers, Other Lovers and The Lamplighter, last year published an acclaimed memoir, Red Dust Road. Hugo Williams, whose Billy's Rain, the chronicle of a long love affair, won the T.S. Eliot Prize, contributes a regular column, 'Freelance', to the TLS.
