Twenty of Romania's most influential and award-winning authors are launched by University of Plymouth Press in a new series 20 Romanian Writers.
These works have been translated into English for the first time; the collection captures Romania's rich cultural diversity and artistic heritage. Selected by an independent Romanian jury of editors, academics and publishers, the series showcases the most notable Romanian novels, essays, poetry, short prose and philosophy of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Each volume is edited and comes with a substantial introduction and texts are complemented with a 16 page full color supplement provided by Romanian contemporary visual artists. 20 Romanian Writers is a landmark collection of the very best writing, which has come from Romania during the past 100 years.

Book Launch
The first major translated collection of Romania's most prominent authors, poets, playwrights and artists.
The first four volumes of the 20 authors series translated from Romanian into English are:

• Six maladies of the contemporary spirit, by Constantin Noica
• The cinematography caravan, by Ioan Grosan
• Lines poems poetry, by Mircea Ivanescu
• Occurence in the immediate reality, by Max Blecher

Films
The War of Independance (1912) - Romania's first feature film within it's Re-Scoring the Silent series. Astonishingly ambitious for a film nearly 100 years old, the film tells the story of Romania's War of Independance (1877-1879). This film is accompanied by live music with pianist Lola Perrin.

The Shadow of Ceausescu Film Series - A season of Romanian features contextualising the Romanian revolution.

• 26 November, 7pm: 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, by Cristian Mungiu. The film will be preceded by a short introduction and followed with a post film Q&A by Irina-Margareta Nistor.
• 3 December, 7pm: The Way I Spent the End of the World, by Catalin Mitulescu
• 10 December, 7pm: The Paper Will be Blue, by Radu Muntean
• 16 December, 7pm: Videogrames of a Revolution, by Harun Farocki & Andrei Ujica
• 17 December, 7pm: 12:08 East of Bucharest by Corneliu Porumboiu
  The last two screenings will be presented by Angelo Mitchievici and will be followed by a Q&A session with the public.

whose work illustrates the launched volumes.
