Dan Perjovschi @ London Festival of Europe16 March 2008, 2.45-3.45 pm;
Acclaimed Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi joins international artists and writers for a discussion on European Action and the Arts chaired by Lorenzo Marsili. The event is part of the London Festival of Europe 2008 organised by European Alternatives. Dan Perjovschi is a visual artist mixing drawing, cartoon and graffiti in artistic pieces drawn directly on the walls of museums and art spaces around the world. His drawings comment on current political, social and cultural issues. He has played an active role in the development of the Romanian civil society, and has fostered exchange between the Romanian and international art scenes. Dan Perjovschi is the recipient of the George Maciunas Prize in 2004. My drawings look spontaneous, but they are not. I draw two or three full notebooks, 150 drawings each, for every project. Only 30 drawings go onto the walls. Big museums, small artist-run spaces, lobbies, offices, windows, concrete floors, black walls. Temporary drawings made with permanent markers. Selected solo exhibitions: What Happens to US?, MoMa New York (2007), I am not Exotic I am Exhausted, Kunsthalle Basel (2007), The Room Drawing, Tate Modern London (2006), Naked Drawings, Ludwig Museum, Koln (2005).
Dan Perjovschi's participation in the London Festival of Europe 2008 is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. When: 16 March 2008, 2.45-3.45 pm; |
