Flowers are No Victims: New play by Peca Stefan

       

Inspired by the case of Raluca Stroescu, an Ernst & Young employee who died in Bucharest from overwork in 2007, Flowers are No Victims is a play that discusses human dignity and second class citizenship in a world that promises globalised equality of opportunity. The play explores three theatrical styles to chart the transformation of a young Romanian strategic planner, Cristina Robu, over three years and her journeys through New York, London and Bucharest.

Peca Stefan is considered one of the most powerful voices in Romanian contemporary playwriting. He studied dramatic writing at New York University and was resident at the Royal Court International Residency 2005 and Playwright in Residence at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven (2007, 2008). His work has been presented in Romania, the United States, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Holland, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Belarus and Serbia. His plays have won several awards, including the Heidelberg Stuckemarkt Innovation Award (2007). More info on www.peca.ro.
