Legendary pianist Dan Grigore @ ICR London Thursday, 5 May 2011, 7pm;
The Romanian Cultural Institute and the Enescu Society in the UK welcome you at a very special soiree. Our guest at the May event of the Enescu Concerts Series is the legendary pianist Dan Grigore who will play some of the best pieces ever written for piano. The recital is given with the occasion of Europe's Day and is held under the patronage of Dr Ion Jinga, The Ambassador of Romania to the Court of St James's. Programme: Dan Grigore is one of the best Romanian pianists. Concert pianist, professor, mentor and public figure, the artist made a name for himself at a very early age when, impressed by his precocious virtuosity, Princess Maria Cantacuzino Enescu granted him the rarely allowed privilege of practising on Enescu's piano. He appeared on most prestigious scenes all over the world and is renowned for an impressive and diverse repertoire, as well as for an extraordinary discography and publications. For his outstanding contributions to the Romanian and European Culture, Dan Grigore was made Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and received the greatest Romanian distinction, The Grand Cross of the Order Star of Romania. He plays sophisticatedly, almost stilted, for all that with a rigour which doesn't allow any compromise. We listen to him fascinated… (Le Monde) The Enescu Concerts Series, jointly organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and the Enescu Society, was established in 2007 under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Margarita of Romania. The concerts take place in the Institute's chamber music hall every first Thursday of each month from February to June (July) and from October to December. The Series has attracted a wide array of outstanding musicians and ensembles who have managed to give some of the most memorable Enescu performances ever. Since September 2009, the Romanian Cultural Institute awards every year the Enescu Society Scholarship to outstanding students at the Royal Academy of Music. When: Thu 5 May 2011, 7pm; |
