Enescu Society Gala Concert @ ICR London

         

The third year of the established Enescu Society continues with a gala concert given by award-winning Romanian-born soprano Leontina Vaduva, together with pianist Masakatsu Nakano.

Leontina Vaduva has graduated from the Academy of Music in Bucharest, studying there with Ileana Cotrubas. She made her debut in 1986 on the stage of the Toulouse Opera. Since her premiere of Manon de Massenet at Capitole of Toulouse, she has often appeared at Covent Garden in Rigoletto, Carmen (as Micaela in 1991 and 1994) and Romeo et Juliette (1994). Among the honours Leontina Vaduva received are the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, the Sir Laurence Olivier Award, the Royal Philharmonic Award and the Romanian State Award for Music and Culture.
In 2000, Vaduva appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, in six performances of La bohème (as Mimì). The soprano has been invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious theaters and festivals with many international orchestras such as: Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Kholn, Vienna and Paris.
Her discography includes Rigoletto (1993), Les contes d'Hoffmann (as Antonia), La bohème and an album of Opera Arias conducted by Plácido Domingo (1997).
Especially noteworthy is her DVD of Romeo et Juliette, with Alagna, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras and directed by Nicolas Joël (1994). Recently, Leontina Vaduva sang in the opera show Vaduva Vesela at the National Opera House in Bucharest and teached masterclasses at The Baltimore Lyrique Opera, The Istanbul Music Conservatory, and the National Opera House in Bucharest.

For the Enescu Society concert she will be accompanied by pianist Masakatsu Nakano.

From September 2009 the Romanian Cultural Institute awards the Enescu Society sholarship to a student at the Royal Academy of Music.
