Romanian Films @ Edinburgh International Film Festival22 - 26 June 2010
Stills from the films
This year's edition of The Edinburgh International Film Festival will showcase two of the award-winning Romanian films: Police, Adjective (directed by Corneliu Porumboiu) and If I want to whistle, I whistle (directed by Florin Serban). Police, Adjective (Romanian: Politist, Adjectiv, 2009) focuses on policeman Cristi, who is investigating a teenage boy who has been smoking hashish. Over time, Cristi begins to question the ethical ramifications of his task.
If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle (Romanian: Eu cand vreau sa fluier, fluier, 2010): the plot shows a teenager prisoner who awaits his release when two weeks before that happens he's told that his mother is returned home. Meanwhile, he finds himself in love with a Sociology student, Ana, working in the penitentiary as an intern.
The screenings will take part in the presence of the director, Florin Serban and the leading actors, Ada Condeescu and George Pistereanu. The Edinburgh International Film Festival is an annual fortnight of cinema screenings and related events taking place each June. Established in 1947, it is the world's oldest continually running film festival. The EIFF aims to present both UK and international movie premieres and to exhibit the work of film-makers. The Romanian Cultural Institute in London supports the Romanian participants' presence at the EIFF. When & Where:
