Attic Arts 2010 Winners

     

The Romanian Cultural Institute brings to London new artists in the Attic Arts residency programme: Christian Hogas, Cosmin Nicolae, Ileana Pintilie and Raul Stef.

The winners have been selected from a number of 54 applications, according to the following criteria, each marked with maximum 5 points:

• the artistic quality and the relevance for current approaches in the field in the UK;
• ability to identify partnerships with UK individuals or organizations, with whom can develop the project;
• the development potential of the proposal and preparedness to present the project within, at most, 1 year of the residency completion, at ICR London or external UK premises as appropriate;
• professional experience;
• ability to speak and write fluently in English.

The artists who will be taking residence in the Institute's Bohemish attic in 2010 are:

Christian Hogas graduated from the National University of Drama and Film "I.L. Caragiale", Performing Arts department. He worked with various theatres in Bucharest, Budapest and London, both as actor and director.
During the residency he will produce and direct a semi-staged performance of the play Bones for Otto by acclaimed Romanian playwright Lia Bugnar. Project partners: Theatre Royal Stratford East and Young Vic Theatre.

Cosmin Nicolae is a composer and producer of electronic music, winner of the Red Bull Music Academy, Toronto in 2007. He has performed over 150 shows in venues across the UK, Romania, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Spain, France, Russia, Denmark, Greece, Belgium, The Netherlands.
At the RCI London, he will develop his first album, involving field recordings, crate-digging and collaborations with London producer Tempa Recordings.

Ileana Pintilie is an art critic and curator, professor at the Arts University in Timisoara, Romania. She curated many solo and group exhibitions in Romania and abroad, her main project being the Performance International Festival Zone in Timisoara.
During the residency she will investigate artistic and philosophical concepts in Paul Neagu's work, researching the archives of the Paul Neagu Estate in London and the Tate Collection.

Raul Stef is MA student at the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the Univeristy of the Arts London. He took part in various group exhibitions and worked as photojournalist for Romanian and UK newspapers such as Clujeanul, The Times and Daily Mail.
At the RCI London he will develop a photographic project about the Romanian community in London.
