Attic Arts 2009 Winners
The Romanian Cultural Institute brings to London new artists in the Attic Arts residency programme: Carmen Danaiata, Carmen Dobre, Vlad Nanca, Andreea Saguna, David Sandor and Alina Serban.
The winners have been selected from a number of 28 applications, according to the following criteria, each marked with maximum 5 points:
The first batch of artists who will be taking residence in the Institute's Bohemish attic in 2009 are: Carmen Danaiata graduated from the National University of Drama and Film "I.L. Caragiale", Film Directing department. Since 2006 she is a PhD candidate at the same University, with a paper on Italian cinema, coordinated by Prof. Univ. Dr. Laurentiu Damian. During the residency she will work on a feature film screenplay called Herotic Accounts, in colaboration with Andreea Saguna. Carmen Dobre is a visual artist, student at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, Foto Video department. In 2001 she graduated the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature in Bucharest, with a paper on Virginia Woolf. She took part in various photography and video group exhibitions in Bucharest. At the RCI London, she will develop a stereoscopic photography project named The World as My Background. Vlad Nanca is a visual artist based in Bucharest. He took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Romania and abroad, such as: Dream of Bucharest, Stuttgart, 2007 (solo); Boulevard Renault 12, Bucharest, 2007 (solo); Overcoming Dictatorships, Birmingham, 2008 (group); Social Cooking, Berlin, 2007 (group). During the residency he will work with Paul Neagu Estate on the project Paul Neagu hyphen Slade hyphen Contemporary Sculpture. Andreea Saguna graduated from the National University of Drama and Film "I.L. Caragiale", Film Directing department. Since 2007 she is a PhD candidate at the same University, with a paper on the relationship between music, screenplay and music videos, coordinated by Prof. Univ. Dr. Laurentiu Damian. At the RCI London she will work on a feature film screenplay called Herotic Accounts, in collaboration with Carmen Danaiata. David Sandor is a visual artist, graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest in 2002. He was Art Director for DHS Design and Genius Advertising. During the residency he will work on a drawing and animation project called Loop. Alina Serban is curator and art critic, currently a PhD student at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London with a paper on engaged aestheticism called From Socialist Realism to the turn to Conceptualism. She has various contributions to Romanian and international conferences, exhibition catalogues and art magazines, as well as many curatorial projects. At the RCI London she will work on a research project on Romanian communist posters from the Victoria & Albert Museum collection.
