Piano Wunderkind Cristian Sandrin opens our 2016 programme, as well as the ever more popular Romanian Series at St Martin-in-the-Fields with a recital bursting with technical brilliance and youthful virtuosity.  The recital features works by Enescu, Glodeanu and Schumann.


Born to a family of musicians, Cristian Sandrin started to play the piano at the age of six with Marina Dragomirescu. He graduated “Dinu Lipatti” Music College and is currently studying with Diana Ketler in the fourth year of the BMus programme at the Royal Academy of Music, holding the ABRSM Scholarship and the John S. Cohen Foundation Award. Cristian is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions such as Carl Filtsch (Sibiu, 2007), Yurii Boukoff (Sofia, 2009), Tudor Dumitrecu (Bucharest, 2010), ProPiano (Bucharest, 2011), Automobile Club de France (2011) and Grand Prix Animato Competition (Paris, 2012). In 2015, Cristian participated in the prestigious Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw. He was semi-finalist in the 2012 Jaques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition winning a recital at Saint James Piccadilly. He also performed in the “International George Enescu Festival” in 2009 and 2011, concerts broadcasted by the Romanian National Television (TVR Cultural).
