Our first event this year is an evening of chamber music by the rising star of Romanian contemporary music, composer and violinist Vlad Maistorovici. The line-up of performers includes award-winning musicians such as violist Daniel Palmizio, pianist Diana Ionescu, soprano Eliana Pretorian and members of the Finzi Quartet, Mercury Quartet and Consortium5.

Romania's most talented designers Dinu Bodiciu, Mihaela Glavan, Irina Marinescu, Carmen Secareanu and Dan Mihai Zarug have a flair for romance and fantasy: against the odds, they deliver beauty in its purest forms, keeping alive the hope that beyond the horizon lies a promised land.
They exhibit at ICR London, within the International Fashion Showcase at the London Fashion Week 2012.

 Three Romanian films at Jameson Dublin International Film Festival

Romania has a strong presence for the second consecutive year at Ireland's biggest film festival, with three recent productions. One of the most discernible poetic voices in contemporary Romanian letters, Claudiu Komartin is our current artist-in-residence c/o the Attic Arts programme. Claudiu works on a poetry translation project to be published this year.
Come and meet him on 15 Jan at Stephen Watts and Cristina Viti's book launch, where he features as a special guest together with singer-songwriter Monooka.

Romanian artist Mircea Cantor, the winner of Marcel Duchamp Prize 2011, will discuss his work and practice at the Hepworth Wakefield, with support from the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. The event is organised in collaboration with Pavilion Leeds, as part of a series of talks with three exceptional contemporary artists: Lucy Skaer, Stephen Sutcliffe and Mircea Cantor.

Following three inspiring evenings with Denisa Comanescu, Claudiu Komartin and Bogdan Ghiu, we are proud to continue the Contemporary Romanian Poets series with the young and provocative Miruna Vlada. Publishing her first anthology Ectopic Poems (2004) at just 18, Miruna famously provoked a public debate about ‘feminine’ writing. Her most recent collection, Break Between Veins, was published in 2007.

On this ocasion, the second volume of the series Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst: Complete Music for Violin and Piano will be launched.  The New Romanian Cinema arrives in Iceland

After Belfast, Dublin and London, Reykjavik is our next stop in 2011! Be prepared to alight in the world of New Romanian Cinema as Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) has a focus on Romania this year. This is a project organised by RIFF in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and includes screenings, exhibition and concert, among others.

A rare chance to see Lucian Pintilie's debut film Sunday at Six (1965), set in the 1940s, during the buildup of the Romanian People’s Republic.
The film follows the romance between two Communist revolutionaries who find their mutual affection at cross-purposes with the interests of the Party.
