Romanian Talent at Saatchi Gallery

15 - 18/09/2016 @ Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York's HQ, King's Road, London SW3 4RY

Mircea But and Todor Tamás, two of the younger generation’s most promising artists, showcase at Saatchi Gallery as part of the START Art Fair - one of London’s most exciting platforms for emerging talent. The artists are represented by Fundaţia Culturală Intact in Cluj, Art+Text Gallery in Budapest and Z Angles Gallery in Cluj.

Born in 1991, Mircea But lives and works in Cluj Napoca, Romania. He is a BA and MA graduate of the Cluj Napoca Arts and Design University, where he studied Painting. As a student he had various collaborations in different art projects, both national and international, and he was also granted two Erasmus scholarships. During 2014-2015, he benefited from an artistic residency at Spaţiu Intact, one of the buzzing spaces within the world renowned Paintbrush Factory in Cluj. His art mixes varied work environments and materials (oil, acryl, spray, collage, photography) in an experimental way, the work process having as much importance as the final image of his artistic projects.

Todor Tamás (b. 1989) is a BA and MA graduate from the University of Arts and Design in Cluj-Napoca, where he studied Painting and where he is currently enrolled in doctoral studies. In 2010 and between 2012-2013, he received two Erasmus grants in Italy and Spain. Tamás had two solo shows at the Quadro Gallery and Casa Matei in Cluj, and has been included in group exhibitions in Romania, Hungary and Greece. His paintings, emanating freshness, bring together elements of an overwhelming visual culture - the street and the virtual world alike – transferred into the "grand art" and linked to the tradition of painting.

Organized by Parallel Contemporary Art and Saatchi Gallery, START Art Fair takes place across all three floors of the gallery and aims to enable collectors, curators, and the greater public to discover new artistic talent. Having welcomed 38 galleries from across 23 countries in 2015 and now in its third year, the fair creates the best possible showcase for young galleries and new artists.

When: 15 – 18 September, 11am to 6pm. The fair can be visited between 11am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm) on Sunday 18 September. Tickets: £10 / adult and £5 / under 16.
