Eliade on Film

26/04/2016 @ Romanian Cultural Institute London, 1 Belgrave Square, SW1X 8PH

As a tribute to Mircea Eliade, the great Romanian scholar and writer, the April  film at the Romanian Cinematheque is 'The Bengali Night', inspired by his most famous fictional work, 'Maitreyi'.

Inspired by the story of young Eliade’s infatuation for a beautiful Indian girl, the film explores the mystery of Indian culture and philosophy as well as the invisible cultural barriers that doom the relationship between lovers belonging to different civilizations.
