Another Romanian Virtuoso in recital at St Martin-in-the-Fields - Sergiu Tuhuţiu

13/07/2012 @ St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London

Pianist Sergiu Tuhuţiu is the fourth young Romanian musician to appear within the famous lunchtime concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields, in the very heart of London. Sergiu, who has distinguished himself as a versatile and accomplished performer all around Europe presents a programme which includes works by Beethoven and Chopin.  Our partnership with St Martin-in-the-Fields will continue in October with a concert by Horia Văcarescu and Chiho Tsunakawa.

Born in 1983 in Romania, Sergiu Tuhutziu took his first piano lessons at the age of seven. During his highschool years, he received prizes at the top national piano competitions and frequently benefited from the guidance of Dana Borsan and Daniel Goiti, two elite contemporary Romanian pianists. In 2002 he was awarded The Grand Prize at The Francophone Music Festival in Baia Mare, and had his concert debut with the Dinu Lipatti Philarmonic Orchestra in Satu Mare, playing Beethoven's 3rd Concerto. The same year he began his studies at the National University of Music in Bucharest, under the tutelage of Professor Steluta Radu. As a chamber musician and accompanist, Sergiu is passionate about sharing the joy of playing with other musicians. During his student years, he performed The Art Ego Trio in multiple concerts, as well as in several radio and TV appearances. In the following year, together with the violinist Vlad Stanculeasa, Sergiu took part in the Duo Sonata Masterclass in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he enjoyed the valuable guidance of two great musicians: Bruno Canino and Pierre Amoyal.

One of his most succesful and beloved projects is "Piano Colours", a Host & Guests concert format, which takes place twice a month at The Godot Theatre, in Bucharest. Initiated a year ago, and regularly sold out, the concept embodies a musical journey from Bach to modern music, with jazz and even interludes of traditional Romanian folk music. In July 2011, upon receipt of a bursary for London Masterclasses, Sergiu moved to London and had the great opportunity of working with the marvelous pianist and teacher Norma Fisher.
