Theatre evening: Afterplay, by Brian Friel

12 December 2006, 7.30 pm; Romanian Cultural Institute London

Cast: Tania Filip (Sonya) and Adrian Titieni (Andrey).
Director: Mihai Bratila
Set design: Stefania Cenean

Brian Friel (born in 1929) is the most acclaimed contemporary Irish dramatist.
In Afterplay, Friel brings together two of Chekhov’s lost souls: Sonya, Uncle Vanya’s devoted niece, and Andrey, the Three sisters’ henpecked brother. In those twenty intervening years, the world of Russia has turned upside down. The nation has undergone an earth-shattering revolution. It is also a time of great idealism, hope, and new ideas. The life that Sonya and Andrey knew has disappeared forever, and there is no way of knowing what will come next.

The director, Mihai Bratila (known as actor in The Death of Mr Lazarescu, Coffee and cigarettes etc) quoted that "it's a play about lie".

The play is in Romanian.
