Violin and piano recital

23 June, 7.30pm

Music at St John’s presents two gifted young instrumentalists from the Royal Academy of Music, Romanian violinist Tudor Andrei and British pianist Lynn Carter. They will play a full-length programme featuring Sonatas by Beethoven and Ravel, as well as music by Chausson, Enescu, Elgar and Saint-Saens.

First Prize winner of the International Competition held at the Niccolo Paganini Academy of Music in Genoa, Italy, the Romanian violinist Tudor Andrei is rapidly gaining a reputation as yet another bright talent emerging from Romania. After graduating from the George Enescu High School in Bucharest, he was awarded a place to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, under the guidance of Professor Remus Azoitei.

Tudor has already performed a large number of concerts in important halls in Romania. In 1999 he toured Switzerland and Italy, and in 2005 Germany. He was invited to appear on various TV and Radio shows in Romania, including TVR1, the Romanian equivalent of BBC1, as well as an in depth interview on "Musicians of today, musicians of tomorrow", on Romanian Radio Cultural Channel.

Since arriving in Britain in 2005, Tudor has performed in venues such as Duke's Hall, Royal Academy of Music, Romanian Cultural Institute, and William Goodenough Trust. In December he had his debut at St. Martin in the Fields, followed by invitations to play at the White Hall and Foreign Press Club. He has also performed at events organized by the European Commission & the European Parliament, for World Poetry Day, the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, and most recently (and excitingly) a recital in a capsule of the British Airways London Eye to celebrate Europe Day. Tudor is very generously supported by both the Ratiu Foundation UK, and the Romanian Cultural Institute in London where he is currently artist-in-residence.

Lynn Carter read music at Selwyn College, Cambridge University, where she held an Instrumental Award that enabled her to explore the chamber music repertoire and receive coaching from distinguished quartets and pianists. Currently a postgraduate at the Academy on the piano accompaniment course, Lynn has been granted the Mary Graham Scholarship, and in 2005 the Musicians Benevolent Fund granted Lynn another substantial scholarship.

Lynn has appeared at numerous festivals including those in Stratford-upon-Avon, Cambridge, Hastings, Wooburn and the Three Choirs Festival. She returns regularly to recital series in Hertford, Cambridge, London and Hereford. Over the last year, Lynn has performed concertos by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich with various orchestras, and she looks forward to performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No.24 in C minor this Autumn. She toured Finland in April, and other upcoming engagements include recitals in Buckinghamshire, Staffordshire and Hertfordshire over the next few months.
